Try these 4 things to get back into training

With December around the corner you can bet that most people will be hitting the beach, but unfortunately not all of us will be hitting it without a t-shirt. If that’s the case try out these 4 ways to get you back into shape:

1 Take it easy

Many men think they can simply hit the gym as hard as they did before they tapered off for winter. This doesn’t get you rock hard muscles, it only gets you sore ones with joint pain and even more workout days missed.

What you should do:

Take it easy and start with half the weight you could lift previously and then increase that my approximately 10% every week. In 8 weeks you should be lifting slightly more than you did before your winter break.

2 Always be a step ahead

All you need is 2 workouts a week for it to become a habit, try that for a month and then increase that to 3 times a weeks. Be sure to schedule your training so that you have time booked out in your diary.

What you should do:

Once you’ve completed a month of training increase the frequency by 1 more day in the next month. You should be training 2 days on and 1 day off in a week for the best results.

3 Go to war with the iron

Weight training burns more calories than endurance training.

What should you do:
Make sure that your first 4 workouts are weight/strength training sessions, with 10 to 15 minutes of cardio. Weight training will stoke your calorie burning furnace.

4 Protein, protein, protein

A protein shake after a workout will help to speed up lean muscle growth which will in turn increase the metabolism and burn more fat.

What you should do:

Make sure that you have a whey protein shake within 30 minutes of your workout. The shake should contain 20 grams of protein.
